On Sunday 9th January 2022, our Society set to and planted 50 Hazel Trees in the Callowland Allotnent Site, North Watford. Several Society members came to help along with two of our County Councillors Asif Khan and Tim Williams. WBC’s Allotment officer Rob Hopkins was also there giving guidance and assistance. The Society has applied to the Queens Platinum Green Canopy and we’ve been awarded with a commemorative online plaque. All in all, a very satisfactory event which will benefit the next generation of allotmenteers. These Hazel Trees will be coppiced in due course and used as bean poles etc. thus offsetting the need for imported bamboo canes.
