2020 Pumpkin Competition!

Well, the thriving North Watford Allotment & Garden Society have hit the headlines again with their Giant Pumpkin Competition held on 31st October 2020.

The winning pumpkin weighed in at 64.6 kilos. That’s just over 10 stone in real money and was grown by Society Member Judith Moore of Garston. (Garston Manor Allotments). 2nd largest was grown by Paula Costa, North Watford - (Garston Manor Allotments )- 28.7k/65.6lb 3rd was Kirsty Hunt, Garston - (Garston Manor Allotments) 21.2k/46.8lb 4th Nigel Wildman, North Watford - (Callowland Allotments)- 15.3k/33.85lb The seeds for the pumpkin competition came from a Society member who grew a pumpkin last year that weighed 8.5 stone, and the Watford Observer published the story. The Society would like to give a massive thank you to everyone who took part, even though it was raining, and for the kind original donations for the pumpkin seeds. The donations made went towards the Peace Hospice charity collection boxes in our two Garden Shops at Garston Manor and Callowland Allotment Sites.

Our Society has had its roots firmly set in Watford’s social history for well over 100 years and has 250 members who either have an allotment or garden at home. Everyone is welcome to join. The only requirement is an interest in gardening. Our two garden shops provide members with most of what they need for their flower and vegetable growing including vegetable and flower seeds, composts, fertilisers and general gardening sundries. Lots of chat and  information on your gardening problems is readily available in our Garden Shops and we have a monthly raffle which is included in your membership fee. Members also receive regular newsletter emails from the Society Chairman.
